The Child (formerly known as Espinas) is a Nick Schinder’s project that has involved many different musicians from its origin, in Buenos Aires, Argentina, 1999.
That same year, The Child achieves the first place of the 2nd Rock Festival of the Lanus National University. Since 2000 they have frequently performed in well reputed places of the city: The Cavern Club, Hard Rock Café, Hooters, Premier Theatre and many others, even in the rest of the country. By the end of the year, they get to be one of the 20 finalists of the 1st Iberoamerican Contest of Internet Music, organized by Universal, between 2700 participants from all Latin America, Spain and even U.S.A. By march, 2001, the group releases its first LP : Espinas de Este Tamaño (Thorns of This Size), featuring covers and originals. During these years, they share stage with some of the greatest Argentinean musicians, such as Charly Garcia, Pedro Aznar, or Fabiana Cantilo. On September, 2001, they get to the semi-finals of the Aguante Buenos Aires, a mega-contest gathering more than 500 bands of the city and suburbs. The jury argues that they did not win because they sing in English!. They have also reached the semifinals of the First Latin-American Beatle Week, by playing their very special versions of some Beatles songs.
In 2002, The Child moves to Barcelona, Spain, where they usually played at many historical music places of the city, such as Kennedy, London Pub, La Ruta dels Elefants, el Forum or Maremagnum. On 2003 they reach the semi-finals of the Demo Project organized by the International Festival of Benicassim 2003, one of the greatest in the pop, electro and indie scene in continental Europe. On the same year, The Child produces its second album, Home, which begins to define the sound of the band: an unclassifiable pop, post rock, electro and world music blend, heterodox material and exquisite vocals. In January 2005 The Child launches its third LP, Format Soul:. This is a year of international projection, playing numerous gigs in London (Filthy Mc Nasty’s, Kennedy, Sound, Leonards, Dublin Castle, Hope & Anchor) or Munich (Crazy Diskothek, etc).
In march 2007 The Child has moved to London and released its fourth studio album, "Think Loud", which represents a complete twist in the sound of the band: a return to their rock roots, but also, a record that finally registers the energy of their breathtaking live performances.
Be ready to surprise. This is not a genre band: independence means artistic freedom.
And enjoy the moment while it’s gone...
